WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE HOMEGROWN?

Look around any department store, high street beauty conglomerate or your bathroom cabinet and for years we have been inundated with US and European brands leading the pack.  Not to sport some sort of nationalistic Brexit sentiment but British brands have had something of a resurgence lately.

British brands do beauty a bit differently from the rest of the world which is why we can boast some of the best beauty products on the global market.  With an emphasis on natural ingredients that are cruelty free and responsibly sourced, we are showing the rest of the world how it can be done – how nice does it feel to be the poster child for once?!

What does it mean to be homegrown?

Current figures suggest that the British beauty industry is worth £17 billion and employs more than one million people. Those are some pretty impressive numbers and don’t show signs of dwindling despite political uncertainty.

Homegrown can mean a myriad of things, so we have chosen to focus on brands that are fuelling the UK industry by using these lands as their HQ or as a site to manufacture their awesome products.

This month’s box contains some of the British superstar brands we adore and why they are homegrown heroes.

Votary

Great stories are often told at the kitchen table, well this one started there! Votary began at the kitchen table of founder Arabella Preston. Arabella started blending pure oils to cleanse her own skin and as a make up artist had a roster of high profile clients to share the transformative power of oils.

Arabella and co-founder Charlotte Sempler are passionate about the power of natural, plant based skincare to give you healthy, dewy skin whatever your age.

Ila Spa

Ila Sanskrit word meaning mother earth.

Founder Denise Leicester’s vision was to create a range of highly potent and sacred products, which channeled the raw remedial power of Nature, using her most ancient and purest sources of energy – plants, flowers, and herbs – and proving that results-driven products and spa treatments can go together with the highest standards of natural and ethical integrity.

Ila products are created in a meditative environment by hand in the Cotswolds using unsurpassed natural ingredients and minimal processing. The company supports tribal communities, villages and farmers all over the world.

Aurelia

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare is made in Britain, with the purest of BioOrganic ingredients sourced sustainably from around the world. Their philosophy is to make a real difference to women with their products by delivering glowing, balanced skin every day.

De Mamiel

Made in the UK and bosting a cult following this is more than just skincare. Products are lovingly handcrafted by Annee De Mamiel using the finest plant based botanicals sourced for their unique powers.

MINTD Box

And lastly, a special shout out to ourselves for being able to bring skin and haircare luxury to our beautiful subscribers wherever you are in the world. We are super proud to have our HQ and warehouse in the UK and we will continue to champion fabulous brands at home and abroad.
