At MINTD Box we love discovering and introducing our lovely subscribers to the latest entrants to the skincare market and this time is no exception. We are pleased to welcome to the hot seat for a quick-fire round of questioning Lune Martens, founder of the vegan friendly skincare brand dedicated to delicate skin, Monday Muse.
Those of us with sensitive skin know how difficult it can be to find impactful products that don’t leave our skin feeling dry, tight, and well, rather fragile. Lune understands that plight having herself suffered from various skin conditions including eczema and acne through her early years. Her mission has been to help others combat their skin ailments with organic formulations that have long lasing positive results.
Lune talks us through the inspiration behind the brand, her plans for expansion and what we should be doing to achieve beautiful skin.
What is the inspiration behind your name?
Because skincare is very personal and intimate, it was important to me to create a name that would evoke a certain emotion and curiosity when you first hear it. Monday symbolizes a new beginning and the motivation to keep up with modern life and not give up on your skin issues. It sets the tone – there’s always a new day to work on healing your skin. A Muse is defined as ‘a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist’ and so our focus is on empowering you to be accepting of yourself and feel good about the skin that you’re in.
Your products are especially for people with sensitive skin. What motivated you to direct your efforts towards this market?
I have personally dealt with many skin conditions like eczema, acne, rosacea, and perioral dermatitis ever since I was a child and know it can really affect you mentally. During my own skin journey, I had trouble finding products that were effective yet gentle enough for my reactive skin. Thus, I wanted to not only create products that work but also have a beautiful aesthetic that doesn’t feel too clinical for those with more sensitive – not so well-behaved – skin.
What are the key elements for a complete skincare routine?
A basic skincare routine should involve a cleanser, a moisturizer of some sort and an SPF during the day. It will depend on your skin type, skin’s needs, and personal preference to decide what type of products you want to use. For example, I generally prefer a serum and a facial oil to use as my form of moisturizer but other days I might use a face cream. Because my skin is quite temperamental, I like to keep it simple and not over-do it, less is more in my book.
What is your favourite product in the range and why?
That is such a hard question ha-ha. I love them both equally but if I had to choose, I would pick The Nectar, our vitamin facial oil as it was our first launch and a product, I created completely by myself and therefore holds a special place in my heart. It’s also great because it’s such a multi-functional product: besides applying it to your face it can also be applied to your hair, your cuticles, dry areas on your body and so on.
What is the vision for Monday Muse in the next 18 months?
Definitely more product launches, we have one more coming in the fall and hopefully expand the brand and build our community, nothing is more rewarding than receiving positive feedback from our customers.
What would be your one key piece of advice to female founders?
Believe in yourself and don’t listen too much to the outside noise! If you have an idea that you really think could add value or would be a great concept, do the research, work on your game plan, and believe in yourself, even if others don’t believe in you at first. Your passion will shine through and people truly appreciate brands that care deeply about their products/service.
