It’s 2019 and we are bombarded with fads and diets that claim to be the thing since sliced bread (except Atkins, no bread, sliced or otherwise!).
Clean eating unlike a diet isn’t about cutting out food groups as much as it is about choosing the healthiest options on offer in each of the food groups. Big on whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy proteins and fats whilst decreasing the amount of refined and processed foods we consume. And because life is about balance we are glad to hear that the onus is on reducing rather than excluding cake and other niceties. It’s probably obvious but even if one doesn’t go totally ‘clean’ avoiding processed options and embracing your 5 a day is going to have a positive impact on your health and well-being.
Eat more fruit and vegetables
We grew up hearing how important fruit and vegetables are to good health, carrots help you see in the dark after all. However, most of us do not eat the recommended amount. With so much variety there’s bound to be something that tickles your fancy, grow your own or buy organic to avoid nasty pesticides.
Meat free Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays…
You don’t need to go vegan overnight, or at all but studies have and continue to show that reducing the amount of meant we consume not only is healthy for us (reduces blood pressure, risk of heart diseases and aid a trim waistline), it also has an overwhelmingly positive impact on the planet.
Go easy on the sweet stuff
Added sugars and processed foods, we just get too much of them. Naturally occurring sugars in fruit should be the sugar of choice, combined with fibre, protein or fat, these aren’t just empty calories but full of nutrients that the body wants and needs.
So we have covered how to go clean, what are some of the benefits to this lifestyle choice?
Okay so it isn’t the be all and end all, but admittedly it feels nice when our clothes fit a little better and noticing a change in when we look in the mirror. Our bodies thrive when we consume natures bounty.
Fruit and veg in particular are packed with lovely vitamins, minerals and water! Your food acts to boost and hydrate your skin, leaving you glowing, replenished and beautiful.
You are what you eat after all. Food has long had a correlation to how it makes us feel, so when you eat better you feel better.
